CALL FOR CONTRIBUTIONS
We launch with issue zero. Zero for ground zero: a zone of togetherness intensified, one at which we arrive from various junctures and per different capacities. Zero for a series of prologues: new openings to numerous intervals where those before us, alongside us, might have left off or have been waiting for others to join.
One interval from which we find it generative to proceed is that of divesting. Insofar as a direct blow to the intricate net bolstering the lethal dyad of capitalism/militarism is concerned, we acknowledge the economic repercussions on the former that divesting, as a sustained economic response, could spawn. Accordingly, we affirm the various fronts assembled and instigated by the people, for the people, with various degrees of rupture to the status quo such as student encampments and worker-led strikes.
For us, nonetheless, divesting is not merely about what we refuse; it is also crucially about what brings and binds us together. In that sense, divesting becomes a multi-layered position which, on the one hand, allows us to reckon with and depart from the tangles of complicity that we have inherited and historically enabled; on the other, it is one where we activate, nurture, and extend other attachments, ones with liberatory potentials, towards the world we inhabit.
And so, we seek to dwell in these apertures that collective divesting makes possible in our capacity as cultural workers, and we invite you to take part in our undertaking. To this end, we are interested in pieces that offer critical engagements with the double-bind proposition of divesting devised above. We specifically encourage the practice of co-writing, which is why we will do our best to actively link people together, according to their interests and capacities, all the while keeping room for solo writing for those who prefer it.
The format could be anything from long essays, shorts essays, poetry, comics, letters, and interviews. We also welcome republishing already-published material, including manifestos.
Submissions are welcome in both Arabic and English.
